EXHIBITION From Courage to Honor

From April, 22 to July, 26 - during visiting hours - free visit

The Museum of the Legion of Honor and the Historical Service of Defence have joined forces to highlight some of the most significant episodes in French military history. Extraordinary objects are shown,mostly for the first, time to the public. 

The exhibition thus reminds us that every decoration is above all the reflection of a multifaceted history, bearing witness both to human destinies and to the traditions of a given era.

Découvrez l'exposition Du Courage à l'honneur - Trésors de la symbolique du service historique de la défense avec Tom Dutheil, commissaire, pour l'aspect scientifique et Julien Hervieux, auteur de bandes dessinées, pour une touche humoristique. 

CONFERENCE La Légion d'honneur d'hier et d'aujourd'hui

Jeudi 21 mai, 19h - gratuit sur inscription

Le lendemain de la date de création de la Légion d'honneur, premier ordre national, découvrez comment cette distinction a évolué avec Virginie Bret-Vitoz, secrétaire générale adjointe de la grande chancellerie, et Patrick Spilliaert, vice-président de la Société des amis du musée. 

CONFERENCE La Résistance et la France libre

Mardi 26 mai, 19h - gratuit sur inscription

Olivier Wieviorka, historien spécialiste de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, s'intéressera à la Résistance et de la France libre durant cette période en s'appuyant d'objets présentés dans l'exposition Du Courage à l'honneur.

Participez une projection du film La Résistance, au service de sa Majesté suivi d'une conférence sur le sujet avec Cécile Coolen, réalisatrice et Olivier Wieviorka, historien spécialiste de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.

REMUE-MENINGES Honneur et politique dans la France contemporaine : de la vertu civique à la scène médiatique

L’honneur, en France, n’est pas un simple mot de morale publique. C’est une véritable matrice culturelle et politique, un fil rouge qui traverse plus de deux siècles d’histoire contemporaine. Alors que la Révolution française avait refondé l’honneur aristocratique pour en faire une vertu collective et républicaine, le XIXème siècle l’a préservé sous la forme récurrente du duel, la IIIème République l’a identifié à la probité et au patriotisme, le général de Gaulle à la Résistance, et la Vème République a fini par en faire un élément de la scène médiatique.
