Openness to the arts, sports and society is a major focus of the Maison d’education of the Legion of Honor of the Loges, whose aim is not only to educate but also to forge self-fulfilling personalities who are at home in their own time.
Civic commitment
The duty of remembrance
Students are encouraged to practice the duty of remembrance, which is a value that the institution holds dear.
In addition to preparing for the national Resistance and Deportation competition, the school has adopted the English concept of “Memorial Assembly” and holds an annual ceremony to commemorate those who died in the service of their country during the First World War and other 20th century conflicts.
Preparing for this ceremony is at the intersection of several subjects: history, geography, foreign languages, French and music.
Participation in official ceremonies
The unique status of the Maison d’education of the Loges enables students to take part in official ceremonies.
Twice a year, a delegation of schoolgirls takes part in the taking up of arms ceremony in the courtyard of the Invalides. This is a ceremony during which the Head of State decorates military personnel, notably those who have distinguished themselves in overseas operations.
Students are also called on to take part in events organized to commemorate the First and Second World Wars. Every year, they are invited to the rekindling of the flame under the Arc de Triomphe.
Music
By tradition and conviction, the Maisons d'education have always given pride of place to musical activities.
At the Loges, in addition to the Maîtrise (music track), which enable students to pursue musical studies included in the curriculum, the music department welcomes all those who wish to learn to play an instrument or sing in the choir. A series of studios and three common rooms have been fully equipped to enable students to learn in the best possible conditions.
Over 20 teachers from various conservatories give weekly lessons in piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, harp, clarinet, saxophone and drums. An instrumental jazz workshop is also open to all, including students with no solfege training.
Sports
A place to develop sporting skills, personal equilibrium and team spirit, the school’s sports association offers girls a wide range of activities, including badminton, ballet, modern dance, swimming, relaxation and tennis.
As part of a partnership between the French education system and Action Contre la Faim (Action Against Hunger), students can take part in May in the annual Race Against Hunger to raise funds for the cause.
Cultural outings and trips
Numerous educational outings are organized throughout the year, in line with the curriculum for each grade: exhibitions, performances at the Paris Opera or the Comédie Française, visits to sites of remembrance, and outings to develop a taste for scientific studies. Thanks to twinning arrangements with schools abroad that share the same values as those of the Legion of Honor, there are numerous student exchange programs in European countries, promoting cultural openness among schoolgirls.
