Throughout history, donors’ generosity has always been a constant for the Grand Chancery of the Legion of Honor. In recent years, our sponsors have made many projects possible, thanks to their financial support and contributions of skilled work. 

 

Projects carried out by the Grand Chancery 

At the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur, a richly-decorated 18th-century mansion, the staterooms, façades and gardens have been restored over several years to a splendor worthy of the institution, and can be admired by all during the European Heritage Days. 

In 2015 and 2018, several of the museum's rooms, including that of the Legion of Honor, underwent a complete transformation thanks to several gifts. 

The former royal abbey saw the rebirth of its ceremonial staterooms in 2014, and of the cloister’s 18th century iron gate and the railing of the Madrid staircase, in 2016 and 2017. At the beginning of 2021, the restoration of the roof of the administrative wing was completed, thanks to donations of both funds and skilled work.

In 2018, the small chapel on the grounds was restored thanks to skilled work sponsorship. In 2023, the generosity of a major donor made it possible to restore to their former glory the interior of the neoclassical chapel at the Maison d'education, and in 2024 to restore its façades.

Thanks to sponsorship, the Grand Chancery was able to organize the 8th Conference of the Grand Chanceries of French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa and France, as well as the exhibition “One hundred portraits for a centenary, Foch's soldiers as seen by Burnand”. In 2024, the “Sports and Honors” exhibition also benefited from a donation. 

In 2020, thanks to corporate sponsors, the Grand Chancery had an original book on its architectural and artistic heritage, La Légion d'honneur, un patrimoine d'exception, published by Editions Internationales du Patrimoine.
